Performance Marketing Agency for German Brands
Germany is Europe's largest ecommerce market and its least forgiving one, because returns, invoice payment and a strict legal reading of what a website may say all sit inside the media plan.
- Europe
- CET/CEST, 3.5 to 4.5 hours behind IST
- Invoiced in EUR or INR
Germany is the biggest online retail market in Europe and it behaves unlike the English-speaking ones. A large share of orders is still paid by invoice or direct debit rather than card, Amazon.de holds a commanding position in product search, Otto remains a serious domestic marketplace, and return rates in fashion are high enough that reported ROAS and realised margin can point in opposite directions for months before anyone notices.
MADDEX Media is an Indian team with no German entity, office or telephone number, and we state that rather than leaving it to be discovered. The overlap with Berlin and Munich is wide, three and a half to four and a half hours, so most of your working day is also ours. We manage structure, bidding, feeds, testing and measurement, while German ad copy is written or approved by a native speaker on your side, because translated copy is visible here at a glance.
Europe's largest ecommerce market, running on Amazon.de and Otto for product discovery, on invoice, direct debit and PayPal at checkout rather than card, with a strong Mittelstand export sector advertising through search and a consumer sector where returns are a structural cost rather than an exception.
MADDEX Media is based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. We have no office, entity or team in Germany: Germany accounts are run remotely from India. We say so here rather than implying a local presence, because a client can check it in a minute and an invented one is worth nothing.
Who we work with here, and what they need
Fashion and footwear
The category where returns decide everything. A campaign judged on platform ROAS can look healthy while contribution margin falls, so we report net of returns as soon as there is enough data to do it.
Mittelstand manufacturing and B2B
Specialist exporters with technical products and small buying audiences. Search capture, precise German-language keyword work and a credible site do more here than any amount of social budget.
Home, furniture and interiors
High order values, long consideration and heavy reliance on comparison. Shopping feed quality and clear delivery information on the product page move conversion more than bid adjustments ever will.
Health, pharmacy and supplements
Advertising is tightly bounded by German rules on health claims and by platform policy at the same time, so copy is built outward from permitted phrasing rather than from an angle that worked in another market.
Automotive parts and accessories
Fitment data is the marketing. A feed that maps parts to vehicles accurately will outperform almost any creative work available in the category, and a bad feed cannot be fixed with bids.
Sporting goods and outdoor
Seasonal, comparison-heavy and dominated at the top of the results by long-established retailers, which pushes smaller brands toward narrow use-case creative and specialist search terms rather than broad category messaging they cannot afford to win.
What Germany businesses are actually looking for
- German brands wanting feed and Shopping management at a lower cost base
- Teams whose Meta ROAS looks fine while margin after returns does not
- Companies needing execution capacity without adding a permanent hire
- Shops weighing Amazon and Otto against their own webshop
- Advertisers whose measurement broke after a consent banner change
Which channels tend to work in Germany
Product search here often begins on Amazon.de rather than on Google, so your Shopping and search campaigns are competing with a marketplace listing the same person will open in the next tab. Google Shopping and a clean feed usually carry more revenue than text ads do, while Meta works best for brands with a genuine story rather than a commodity catalogue. Android share is higher than in Britain or the States, which softens the iOS signal loss a little without removing the case for server-side tracking.
Running a Germany account from India
The offset is only three and a half hours in summer and four and a half in winter, so our working hours cover yours from your morning until mid-afternoon, which is enough for same-day decisions without anyone keeping unsocial hours. We report in writing every Monday and hold a call each fortnight, conducted in English. Fees are invoiced in euro or rupees without German VAT, which a German business customer would normally handle under the reverse charge, and the ad budget is paid by you directly to Google and Meta.
Germany applies its consent rules narrowly: tags fire after consent, Google has required Consent Mode v2 since March 2024 for remarketing and audience features, and a banner that blocks without signalling correctly reads as lost conversions rather than as a compliance event. German websites also carry obligations an imported template routinely fails, among them the Impressum, clear price and shipping disclosure and the fourteen-day right of withdrawal, and non-compliance is enforced commercially through competitor warning letters as much as by any regulator. We flag what we can see on pages we work on, but the legal review belongs with a German lawyer.

Germany: frequently asked
Can you write German ad copy?
No, and we will not pretend to. We build the campaign architecture, the testing plan, the feed, the bidding and the measurement, and we brief angles in English. The German lines are written or signed off by a native speaker, either yours or one you appoint. German buyers notice translated copy immediately, and an ad that reads foreign costs more than a slightly slower launch does.
How should high return rates change our ROAS target?
They should change the metric, not only the target. In categories where a large share of orders comes back, platform-reported ROAS describes gross orders and nothing else. We ask for return data by product and by campaign as soon as there is enough of it, then optimise against contribution after returns and shipping, which usually reallocates budget away from whichever campaigns looked best on the dashboard.
Should we sell on Amazon.de and Otto or build our own shop?
Most German brands end up doing both, and the useful question is what each one is for. Marketplaces buy volume and visibility at the cost of margin and customer data. The webshop earns the margin and the repeat purchase but has to pay for its own traffic. We work on the webshop side and build reporting that shows what each channel genuinely contributes, so the split is a decision rather than a habit.
Who handles the legal requirements on our website?
You do, with a German lawyer. We are a marketing supplier and nothing else. Where we are building or editing a landing page we will point out an obviously missing Impressum, unclear pricing or a withdrawal notice that is not where a buyer expects it, because those also depress conversion, but noticing something is not legal advice and we do not offer it as such.
How long is the contract?
Three months to begin with, then monthly with thirty days notice. Three months is roughly what it takes to repair tracking, rebuild structure, find creative that holds up and see whether the economics survive a higher spend. Shorter than that and you pay for the setup without seeing the return on it. There is no annual lock-in and no penalty for stopping when the notice period is served.
